ProMonitor 800 Satellites—the heart of a spectacular Home Theater speaker system
The ProMonitor 800 is Definitive’s “Better” satellite speaker in the acclaimed Pro Series. Four ProMonitor 800s along with a ProCenter 1000 and ProSub 800 makes a complete ProCinema 800 system. All the components of the system are packed and sold separately allowing you to mix and match Pro Series components to build the system that best suits your needs.

Don’t let the ProMonitor 800’s small size and affordable price fool you—it is a remarkably sophisticated product with huge sound. The 800 incorporates many of the same technologies as Definitive’s top-of-the-line models including BDSS drivers, pure aluminum dome tweeters, and planar pressure coupled mid/bass radiators for home theater sound quality that will shock your friends and family when they hear your system for the first time.

The Secret to Their Big Sound
Competing satellite speakers of this size usually have weak lower-midrange response; that part of the audio range that contains the ‘warmth” and “body” of voices and musical instruments. Listen to a male vocal on typical small satellite speakers and you will instantly hear what we mean. The ProMonitor satellites avoid this critical problem by pressure-coupling our exclusive BDSS technology driver to an equal-sized mid/bass radiator cleverly placed on the top of the satellite. This technique doubles the lower-midrange radiating area of the speaker without increasing the size of the enclosure. You’ll enjoy the kind of rich, warm and life-like sound quality that you thought was only possible with big, hard to place speakers.

Easy to Place, Easy to Use
Small enough to disappear in a room but beautiful when in plain view the 800 satellites can be shelf-mounted with their unique tri-lobed base, wall-mounted using the built-in keyhole mount or optional ProMount 80 articulating pivot mounts or stand mounted with their optional ProStand 600/800 floor stands.

    The Sound
Sonically, the ProMonitor 800 satellite is a revelation in terms of achieving incredible sound at an affordable price. Their imaging is absolutely boxless, spacious and three dimensional while delivering pinpoint specificity and localization when called for. They are velvety smooth with you-are-there presence which is hard to find at any price and unheard of in this price range. The 800 is dynamic but capable of great subtlety so it excels equally with music or movies.

after listening and purchasing Definitive Technology speakers, I will never purchase another brand of speaker again.

To make a long story short, my wife, 3 year old son and myself outgrew our old house and moved into a larger house. Ironic as it may sound, by moving into a larger house I lost my "man room" and no longer had a place to set up a surround system. I left behind my Cambridge Soundworks surround system in my previous house and needed to find a really good pair of small full range speakers for my new home. Over the years I have owned some fine speakers from companies such as Boston Acoustics, Polk, JBL and Cambridge Soundworks. I have not purchased speakers for a few years and needed to do some research before making my purchase. After visiting many web sights comparing small bookshelf style speakers and visiting a few HIFI stores, I was AMAZED by the sound that the Definitive Technology ProMonitor 800 produced. Even without a subwoofer, the sound was full and clear. I compared them to other brands that I was familiar with such as the ones I had previously owned and it was no contest. All the other speakers sounded as I thought they would, good but not outstanding. The Def Tech 800 had me shaking my head as to how such a small speaker in size could sound so large. The clarity was amazing and the bass was much deeper than expected. After comparing a few more speaker brands, I quickly returned to purchase the Def Tech 800. I brought them home and hooked them up my modest Marantz SR 4200 receiver. The music that was heard even amazed my wife who could care less about stereo equipment. Her first question to me was how much did I pay for such awesome sounding speakers. At first she didn't believe the small price but after showing her the receipt, she was as amazed as I first was when I listened to them. As I have previously mentioned, all the previous brands of speakers I have owned sounded really good and I was pleased with but after listening and purchasing Definitive Technology speakers, I will never purchase another brand of speaker again. FANTASTIC JOB DEF TECH!!!

In the past few days I have been searching an upgrade for bookshelf speakers and I finally settled on a pair of these Definitive Technology ProMonitor 800s. Even though these are considered to be "satellites" for their ProCinema800 line in home theater, these work just as well as ultra-compact bookshelf speakers for my specific use. I have these in black and both are paired to my Onkyo CR-325 receiver with one Polk PSW10 subwoofer for solely listening to music. Needless to say, I have these in an exclusive 2.1 setup. The aesthetics and quality of this speaker are truly superb. Everything from fit and finish to even the audio connection banana plugs are constructed very well. My priorities for choosing new bookshelf speakers were design due to size constraints in my room and semi to full range sound with some trade off in size. In the end I finally settled on these speakers after much research based on their relatively small size but excellent audio performing capabilities. Each is a good 4lbs and has a good solid heft to it. They are finished in an uber classy shiny buffed piano black and come standard with a three-prong foot stand pre-installed. They look even more impressive with the speaker grill off, but I left mine on for dust protection. There are three components as shown in pictures, the tweeter, midrange driver, and passive radiator on top. The sound from these ProMonitor800s are simply sublime! Once everything was connected I knew I made no compromises between size and audio-fidelity. I bought these as an upgrade to the Bose Acoustimass 3 that came with my Onkyo receiver, and wow there really is NO comparison. To even mention these speakers in the same class as the Bose that I had would be an insult. I knew instantly what a worthy upgrade (and necessary, since I missed out so much on midrange detail from the Bose) this was once the music started playing. My music sound so much fuller and balanced across the spectrum coming from these ProMonitor800s. The trebles are sparkly, the midrange is smooth, bold, and present, with the mid bass ready to perform. Vocals sound so real, with instruments distinctively crisp it's like you're there. As far as soundstage goes, I have these speakers setup at least 8-10 feet part, and the imaging is just superb. The stereo imaging is excellent, and you can definitely hear the distinctions between vocals, instruments, and other ambient details in high quality audio sources and recordings. My further impression was that for such small speakers and just only two of them, the imaging was just amazing for only a 2.1 setup as my room was filled with this gorgeous clear full-bodied sound. This is just to describe the performance of these speakers within 12 hours of breaking them in. I know they are bound to sound even better after 40 hours of breaking them in according to the manual, allowing them to open up even further and sound more cohesive. If you are thinking about these speakers and they fit in your budget, rest assured that you will be getting superb audio performance, and purchase these without hesitation. I was initially hesitant due to making a blind audio purchase without experiencing them first hand, but am now completely satisfied and am so glad I purchased these. I can definitely recommend these without skipping a heartbeat and I believe I am now a Definitive Technology fan for life.
