Got this 720p plasma and have been enjoying the larger screen and much improved pic compared to old 32" RCA console. HD over the air channels are very clear and sharp, some are broadcast 1080i some 720p none are 1080p so I doubt I would notice the difference if I had bought the 1080 tv. Sound is just Ok, you may be disappointed watching DVD's without a sound bar or home theater, for regular viewing sound is adequate. Wish remote was back lit, otherwise it seems pretty good and it is huge. As with all plasma's glare could be a problem, if you have windows directly behind the tv you will need good window coverings to block out the light (mini blinds won't be adequate). If the windows are to the side you won't need total light control, mini blinds should be fine.
I haven't gotten into adjusting the factory preset setting for picture yet, but the 3 presets for picture are standard (for normal viewing), movie (for watching movies in dark room conditions) and dynamic (bright room viewing) I don't care for the dynamic, colors are to vivid. So far standard and movie are acceptable. It looks like there are plenty of options for adjusting so after a week or so I'll try to adjust the settings.
Burn in is a non issue with me, I'm a channel surfer so no chance of image retention due to one image being onscreen to long. There are features on this set to minimize and eliminate burn in if it does occur.
Motion blur kept me from going LCD, can't wait to see a Nascar race, or Football game on this beast. I did watch some golf and though motion blur was a complete non issue it was great to actually see the ball in flight. And on the putting green I could actually see the ball and the hole. Before HD I could only guess at what I was seeing. Should have bought this years ago.
On an old non HDMI DVD player I am getting a very good not great picture and my Onkyo Home theater solves the speaker deficiency. I'm hard of hearing so I still have trouble hearing voices in movies like Transformers, Avatar and most action movies. Not totally sure if it's me or the sound track on DVD's, probably me. Will probably upgrade to blue ray and HDMI soon, will update this review if picture and sound are noticeably improved.
Some report a buzzing sound coming from Samsung plasma's, this one does not have that problem.
Overall I'm very pleased with this purchase so far. Paul's TV handled the over the phone purchase quickly and delivery was the next morning. They did say they would call before delivery but did not. Luckily I was doing yard work when they arrived and did not miss the delivery.
If your just looking for a TV to replace an old tube type TV or worn out flat panel. I think you'll be happy, if your real particular about things you may want to move up to 1080p and top of the line model, but for a soon to be 58 yr. old who's hard of hearing and not exactly eagle eyes this one works for me.
