Got a Great Deal on a TV with a Near-Perfect Picture

I purchased this TV (to replace a Panasonic TC-P50ST2) because I wanted a TV that had ultimate picture quality performance. Specifically, I wanted a better black level than the TV I had, which was no slouch to begin with. The 50GT50 delivered 100%. It has all the settings and adjustments you'd expect in a better-model TV set. If you buy this TV, buy it for the exceptional picture quality, and you will not be disappointed.
I have not tried to view any 3D content. Be advised that this TV does NOT come with 3D glasses. However, the basic picture is so lifelike and appears very 3D in it's own right, I really don't see much reason why anyone would feel the need to even buy them?
The only place it falls flat is its Net-Connected features. I connected it to my WiFi, and it worked for several hours, but it won't reconnect after a power cycle. As a workaround, I used a cabled connection, which has proven to be reliable, but a little inconvenient.
There is an Android App that can be used as both a game controller and a remote control. It's not intuitive, but the app communicates via wifi, so you'll need to connect the TV to your wifi (wireless or wired) to use the app. When I used it with this TV, the app continually crashes. I can't tell if it's the TV, the network, or the app, though all suspicions suggest the TV is to blame.
The Panasonic manual specifically calls out compatibility with a "Game Controller". However, Panasonic does not actually sell a game controller for this TV, and when I called their customer service to purchase one, they admitted that even though page 144 did in-fact say you could use a game controller with the TV, they had no idea which ones would be compatible, or where to buy one. It's not like there are a huge number of apps available on the TV anyway, but I did find a few interesting ones that were suitable to kill some time. However, playing action games using an InfraRed remote control is not optimal, because it has an unpredictable delay. Again, it's a TV, not a game console. This weakness is not a deal breaker. But I can't figure out why they included the feature in the first place, and apparently neither can Panasonic Customer Support?
The only network features I will give them high marks for are that Netflix and Amazon Prime work very well. There's even a dedicated button on the remote that goes directly to Netflix.
I definitely recommend this TV to anyone wanting a top-notch home theater experience. Just don't expect it to replace your PS3 or XBOX.
Panasonic 50GT50 Plasma

I can recommend Paul's TV for purchases. Very fast delivery, very careful shipping and easy to deal with online. Panasonic Plasma is a great TV. I shopped for LED TV around 50". After much looking, we looked at Plasma and are very impressed with the current generation. LED TV does not match the picture quality in my view. The Panasonic GT series offers an excellent picture with very fast refresh rate. We were concerned it would be 'warm' in our enclosure cabinet. But it is not warm. Our previous 37" LG LCD seemed just as warm. Internet feature is easy to use. We haven't tried the 3D feature. I learned buyers often prefer the Logitech Universal Remote to TV remotes including Panasonic's remote.

This is my fourth Panasonic Plasma but my first 3D TV. I also bought two packages that contained two of the Medium Size glasses, TY-ER3D4 each for a total of four glasses. I have Comcast and they have a lot of free 3D movies.
It is kind of tricky to make 3D work but once it is working it is fine. I think that it will just take practice.
These glasses are Bluetooth (radio waves). The previous generation was infrared. I can see why Bluetooth is much better. "Line of Sight" like in infrared does not have to be maintained with radio waves.
Here is something weird. It is in a bright room. If the three D is working then looking out a window on a sunny day is freaky. The shutter action is obvious. You will have to close the curtains for using three D.
Picture and sound are great. Also this thing is light and easy to put together. I have a 48 inch wide opening. Techincally there is not enough clearance on the side but it is in an open non-enclosed area and there is no heat build up. A fifty inch set in a 48 inch opening! Not many widescreen TV's can do that. Not up to the specified clearance but it works for me.
The inputs are sideways. I may get new HDMI cables that have a right angle plug. Maybe... You cannot really see the cables when in use.
For those with Panasonic Plasma familiarity here is the summation: Very beautiful when off, Nice solid stand that does allow the screen to rotate. Very thin. Very light. Great sound and picture. The three D works. I am going to have to decide if I like it or not enough to use routinely.
Comcast does have a sports channel in 3D. Sports are really much better in 3D. I think that is where I will use it primarily. Charging the glasses is very easy. It uses an included micro USB plug in the glasses box (micro not the mini). I used a combo of computer USB connections and also the one that comes with the iPod for charging. The glasses are very light. They are "medium" and I wear an XL motorcycle helmet but they fit over my glasses easily.
This product easily exceeded my expectations.
