Using the YDS-12, you can:

Default is (A) mode for compatibility with the newer Yamaha products such as the RX-Vx67 series, AVENTAGE series and YSP-2200 Digital Sound Projector, while (B) mode is for compatibility with previous Yamaha products that use the dock port [iPhone is not supported in mode (B)].

Very compatible with the Yamahareceiver I bought. Plugs right in to the port in the rear, and provided adapters make the fit perfect for iPhone and iPod.

Convenient. Just plug in your ipad/iphone and play it. Need a charge? Just plug it in to the dock. No messing with cables to play or charge your ipod. Well made. Seems a bit over priced, however.
